(Update) Police Locate Person Unaccounted for After Hilo Hotel Fire, Investigation Ongoing

Hawai’i Island detectives have located and identified the second individual who was initially unaccounted after following the fire at a Hilo hotel on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025. It was determined that he was not present during the fire and returned to the scene later that morning, in good health.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and detectives are continuing the coroner’s inquest investigation to positively identify the decedent who was killed in the fire. An autopsy was scheduled for today.

The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing this investigation.
