(Update) Police Identify Man Killed In August Ocean View Traffic Collision

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the man killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision that occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Ocean View as 45-year-old Jason Jay Spurgeon of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates (HOVE) subdivision.

On August 15, at 1:17 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Aloha Boulevard and Lehua Lane in HOVE. Investigators determined that a gold 2021 Kia Seltos, operated by Spurgeon, was traveling westbound (makai) on Aloha Boulevard when it crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a silver 2000 Nissan Altima. The Nissan was operated by a 21-year-old woman, also from HOVE.

Spurgeon was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 p.m. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The 21-year-old woman was transported to the Kona Community Hospital in critical condition and has since been released.
