(Update) Police Identify Body Found in Kona

Hawai‘i Island police have identified the man found deceased in a grassy area near businesses in the 74-5000 block of Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, as 51-year-old Paul Ascunsion of Kona.

Police launched a coroner’s inquest investigation after Kona patrol officers responded to a report of an unresponsive male at 7:27 a.m. and determined the man was deceased. There were no indications of foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding Ascunsion’s death, and the coroner’s inquest investigation has been closed.

A previous media release listed the report number as 25-112497, and this release has been updated to reflect the accurate report number 25-112947.
