(Update) Pahoa Man Arrested and Charged Following Burglary of Fumigated Residence

Hawai’i Island police detectives have arrested and charged 49-year-old Tyson Kyle Prim, of Pahoa, with burglary and theft offenses stemming from two incidents each occurring in the Puna and South Hilo Districts in the month of October 2025.

On December 16, 2025, upon conferral with Hawai’i County Prosecutors, Prim was charged with:

· Burglary in the 1st Degree (Two Counts)

· Criminal Property Damage in the 3rd Degree

· Theft in the 2nd Degree (Two Counts)

· Habitual Property Crime (Three Counts)

· Summons or Arrest on Probation No Bail (Four Counts)

Prim was also charged for four outstanding Summons or Arrest on Probation No Bail warrants. His total bail amount was set at $111,000. Prim was scheduled to make his initial court appearance this afternoon, December 17, 2025, in Hilo District Court.

On October 20, 2025, Puna Patrol officers responded to a report of a burglary at a residence in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. The victim reported arriving home to find that unknown persons broke into the home causing damages to the entry area. The victim reported property was stolen from the home to include jewelry items. Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation which led to the recovery of the stolen jewelry and identification of Prim as the suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained.

The second incident occurred on October 29, 2025, at a residence in Hilo in the 1000-block of Lei Hinahina Street during when the home was tented for fumigation. Pest control workers arrived at the home in the morning to begin removing the tent from the structure and an employee observed a male suspect fleeing on foot from the tented home and discovered that a portion of the tent had been cut. The employee chased the male suspect who was observed to leave in a silver older model Mazda Tribute SUV with unknown license plates. The victim reported that jewelry items had been stolen from within the home. Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation and identified Prim as the suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 6:10 pm, detectives from the Area I Crime Reduction Unit located Prim in the Panaewa area in Hilo where he was arrested for the outstanding warrants.
