(Update) Kawika Ah Nee Charged in Attempted Murder Investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged 35-year-old Kawika Ah Nee of Mountain View in connection with an attempted murder investigation stemming from a shooting in Mountain View.
On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 5:26 p.m., after conferring with the Hawaiʻi County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Ah Nee was charged with:
- Second-degree attempted murder
- Carrying or use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony
- Place to keep ammunition
His total bail was set at $1,753,000.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday morning, August 4. At 1:37 a.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a man who had been shot multiple times in front of a residence in the 18-1200 block of Waikiki Street in the Livingston subdivision.
The victim, a 53-year-old Hilo man, was transported by ambulance to Hilo Benioff Medical Center in critical condition, before being flown to Oahu for further treatment.
Later that morning, Ah Nee was located and arrested without incident. Following continued investigation by detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section, he was formally charged on August 5.
Ah Nee is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Thursday, August 6, in Hilo District Court.
