Hawai’i Island police are continuing the investigation into multiple structure fires that occurred in Downtown Hilo, early Sunday morning, November 30, 2025.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday, South Hilo patrol officers and Hawai’i Fire Department (HFD) personnel responded to reported structure fires on the 200 block of Kino’ole Street, and the 100 block of Keawe Street. Upon arrival, it was determined that a total of four buildings were fully engulfed in flames.

Police and Fire personnel immediately began efforts to evacuate the affected buildings, as well as nearby residences and residential complexes.

Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives and Hawai’i Fire Department inspectors responded to the scene. Late Sunday afternoon, fire department inspectors reported that following an extensive search of the affected buildings, no human remains were located, and as of this time, police have not received any reports of anyone being unaccounted for. Fire investigators also reported there was no indication of accelerants or evidence of foul play, and the cause of the fire is currently classified as undetermined.

Detectives are in the process of obtaining and reviewing video surveillance from surrounding businesses.

All streets in the Downtown Hilo area are now open. Police would like to thank the pubic for their patience and understating while first responders were working in the area and multiple streets were closed.
