Police to Temporarily Close Kawaihae Road for Traffic Investigation on May 15

The Hawaiʻi Police Department would like to inform the public of a temporary road closure scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Kawaihae Road (Highway 19) between the 65- and 66-mile markers.

The temporary closure is necessary to allow investigators to conduct a forensic diagram and follow-up investigation related to the recent fatal traffic collision that occurred in the area.

Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible. Police officers will be on scene to assist with traffic control and public safety during the investigation.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department appreciates the public’s patience, understanding, and assistance as investigators continue their efforts in this matter.
