Police Seek Leads in July 2021 Puna Murder

Hawai‘i Island police detectives are renewing their request for information about an unsolved July 2021 murder in Puna.
On July 31, 2021, the body of 76-year-old Michael Rosenbaum was discovered at MacKenzie State Recreation Area in Puna.
Rosenbaum was reported missing on July 24, 2021, and was last seen alive on July 22, 2021, in Pāhoa. He lived in the area and frequently walked from his home to nearby businesses or caught the bus.
His body was found by a local fisherman on the cliffs below the beach park. An autopsy later concluded that Rosenbaum died from a gunshot wound.
The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing the investigation, which is classified as second-degree murder.
