Police, Elementary Students Promote Traffic Safety Through Sign-Waving Event

The Hawai‘i Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section partnered with Kealakehe Elementary School on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, for a traffic safety sign-waving event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of speeding, reckless driving, and impaired driving.

More than 150 fifth-grade students, faculty and staff participated in the event from 9 to 10 a.m. Students held signs displaying positive safety messages encouraging motorists to slow down, remain attentive and drive safely.

The event provided students with an opportunity to take an active role in promoting roadway safety while helping raise awareness among passing motorists.

The Hawai‘i Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section extends a heartfelt mahalo to the students, faculty, and staff of Kealakehe Elementary School for their enthusiastic participation and continued partnership in promoting traffic safety throughout the community.
