For her attention to detail and teamwork during a robbery and vehicle theft investigation earlier this year, the Kona Crime Prevention Committee honored Kona Patrol Officer Sarha Reich as the November 2025 Officer of the Month during a ceremony in Kona on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

On May 22, 2025, at 3:26 a.m., Officer Reich responded to a report near an apartment complex on Kealakehe Street in which a man reported being assaulted and having his vehicle stolen by three unknown male suspects. Upon arrival, Officer Reich immediately began gathering detailed information from the victim, keeping him calm while obtaining descriptions of the suspects and the stolen vehicle. Her quick and thorough communication allowed other responding officers to locate and stop the stolen vehicle a short time later, resulting in the arrest of one of the suspects.

Officer Reich continued to lead the investigation, overseeing the vehicle’s recovery and coordinating with detectives to obtain a search warrant. Her detailed and accurate reporting contributed to the prompt approval of the warrant and later to the suspect’s conviction for second-degree robbery and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney commended her for producing a thorough report.

“Officer Reich’s actions demonstrate the value of strong communication, teamwork, and composure under pressure,” said Interim Police Chief Reed Mahuna. “Her dedication to thorough investigations and her ability to collaborate effectively with her fellow officers reflect the professionalism and integrity that I appreciate in our officers, she is an outstanding example of the work they do every day.”

A member of the department for less than two years, Officer Reich is a graduate of the 100th Recruit Class of which she was class president. During that time she has quickly earned a reputation for her strong work ethic, clear communication, and ability to stay calm in high-stress situations.

Each month, the Kona Crime Prevention Committee honors an officer who demonstrates excellence in service to the West Hawai‘i community. As Officer of the Month, Officer Reich is eligible to be considered for the 2026 Officer of the Year award.
