The Hawaiʻi Police Department is proud to announce that Officer Adam Roberg of the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit received the 2026 Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment to impaired driving enforcement and traffic safety education. He was honored during a statewide ceremony held on Maui on June 25.

Officer Roberg was recognized for his dedication to removing impaired drivers from Hawaiʻi Island roadways, as well as for developing the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s “Heal Our Highways” safe driving awareness program.

Roberg started the “Heal Our Highways” initiative in October 2025 to promote safer driving habits through community education, public outreach, and increased awareness of the devastating consequences of impaired, distracted, and reckless driving. Over the past year, he has built partnerships with community and government agencies, organized sign-waving events across the island, held rallies, and appeared on several media outlets. “The focus is on the surviving family members of those impacted by traffic fatalities and educating members of the community,” said Roberg.

Throughout his 16-year law enforcement career, Officer Roberg has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to traffic safety. His proactive enforcement efforts, combined with his passion for educating the public, have made a lasting impact on reducing dangerous driving behaviors and improving roadway safety throughout Hawaiʻi Island.

“Officer Roberg’s dedication extends beyond enforcement,” said Sergeant Thomas Koyanagi of the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit. “His vision for the ‘Heal Our Highways’ program reflects his commitment to saving lives through education, prevention, and community partnerships. This recognition by MADD is a testament to the positive difference he continues to make both on and off the roadway.”

The Hawaiʻi Police Department congratulates Officer Roberg on receiving this prestigious award and thanks Mothers Against Drunk Driving for its continued partnership in the shared mission of eliminating impaired driving and preventing needless tragedies on our roadways.

The Department remains committed to reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries through education, enforcement, engineering, and community engagement. Programs such as “Heal Our Highways,” combined with proactive traffic enforcement, help advance that mission by encouraging all motorists to drive responsibly and make safe decisions every time they get behind the wheel.
