Ocean View Woman Charged for Assault Following Firearms Incident

Hawai‘i Island police have arrested and charged 49-year-old Chante Livingston of Ocean View in connection with a shooting incident that occurred Monday morning , Feb. 9, 2026, in Ocean View.

Police received a report at 7:23 a.m. that a 63-year-old man was walking past a residence in the 92-9000 block of Tiki Lane when he heard what sounded like multiple gunshots. The man reported that he believed one or more of the shots may have struck his dog.

The man then reportedly approached the residence and encountered a woman, later identified as Livingston, who was in possession of what appeared to be a rifle-style firearm. During the encounter, Livingston allegedly discharged the weapon in the man’s direction, striking him in the abdomen.

The victim was transported to Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for serious and substantial bodily injury.

Kaʻū patrol officers responded to the area and located Livingston at the residence. She was arrested without incident. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation and executed a search warrant at the residence, recovering two pellet guns.

The victim’s dog reportedly fled the area and has not yet been located. The dog is described as a blond German Shepherd-type “poi” dog weighing approximately 35 pounds.

Livingston was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault. Her bail was set at $15,000 and she is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Kona District Court.
