Kealakekua Man Arrested on Grand Jury Indictment for Promoting Child Abuse

Hawai‘i Island police arrested 50-year-old John Gonzalez of Kealakekua on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, following a grand jury indictment charging him with two counts of Promoting Child Abuse in the Second Degree.

The charges stem from an investigation in which police recovered an electronic device that was later found to contain numerous sexually explicit images involving children.

Gonzalez was arrested on the indictment and his total bail was set at $100,000.

His initial court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
