Hilo Community Policing Officers Promote Bike Safety During Hilo Trek The Trails Event
The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Hilo Community Policing Section extends its sincere appreciation to all who participated in the annual Trek the Trail event held at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
The event saw a spectacular turnout as the County of Hawaiʻi hosted its yearly health and fitness initiative, with an emphasis on bicycle safety. Participants began the Trek the Trail course at the Civic Auditorium, traveled through Wailoa State Park, and returned safely to the starting point. Community Policing Bike Patrol Officers were stationed at key intersections along the route to ensure the safety of all participants, helping to facilitate a smooth and incident-free experience.
Upon returning to the Civic Auditorium, attendees were welcomed by an array of arts and crafts vendors, live music, and a diverse selection of food trucks. A highlight of the event was a dedicated bicycle safety course designed to teach young riders about bike handling and traffic awareness. Special thanks go to Chris Seymore for his mentorship of new riders, conducting safety checks, and promoting overall bicycle safety.
To round out the day, children who completed the course were given Keiki Identification cards provided by the police department.
The event was an outstanding success, and the Hawaiʻi Police Department looks forward to partnering with the County of Hawaiʻi again next year to promote community engagement, health, and safety.
