HI-PAL Keiki Poke Contest in Kona

June 20 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

HI-PAL Keiki Poke Contest flier

On June 20, 2026 from 11 am-2 pm, the Kona Community Policing, in collaboration with the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel and Bryan Fujikawa, Executive Chef and owner of KGH Catering, will present the first HI-PAL Keiki Poke Contest.

This exciting event is designed to inspire and support the next generation of young cooks by introducing them to the culinary arts in a fun, meaningful, and accessible way. Through hands-on experience, participants will have the opportunity to explore their creativity, build confidence in the kitchen, and gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural traditions and heritage of poke.

The contest is limited to 15 contestants and will be divided into three age groups: 5–8, 9–12, and 13–17 years old. For safety and support, each participant may be accompanied by an adult throughout the competition. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, all fish will be pre-cut in advance, allowing contestants to focus on seasoning, creativity, and presentation rather than knife skills.

More than just a competition, the HI-PAL Keiki Poke Contest aims to create a positive and encouraging environment where keiki can learn, have fun, and showcase their talents while developing valuable culinary skills and a greater appreciation for Hawaiʻi’s rich food traditions.

Registration Information

A completed waiver form is required for each participant. To register for the HI-PAL Keiki Poke Contest and obtain a waiver form, please contact Officer T. Meno. Email: tyler.meno@hawaiipolice.gov.

Interested participants are encouraged to register early, as space is limited to 15 contestants.

We look forward to bringing our community together to celebrate Hawaiʻi’s culinary traditions while encouraging and empowering young aspiring chefs. Join us for this exciting event and support our keiki as they learn, create, and share their passion for food.
