DUI Stats
During the week of Sept. 7, through Sept. 13, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 555 DUI arrests compared with 629 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.76 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 701 major crashes so far this year, compared with 716 major crashes during the same time last year. This is a decrease of 2.09 percent.
As of Sept. 13, there have been 22 fatal crashes, resulting in 24 fatalitiescompared with 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 37.50 percent for fatal crashes and 41.18 percent for fatalities.
In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
