DUI Stats
During the week of August 31, through September 6, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 18 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 539 DUI arrests compared with 609 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.49 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 686 major crashes so far this year, compared with 705 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 2.70 percent.
As of September 6, there have been 22 fatal crashes, resulting in 24 fatalities compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 46.67 percent for fatal crashes and 50.00 percent for fatalities.
In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
