DUI Stats

During the week of August 24, through August 30, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 521 DUI arrests compared with 597 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.73 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 659 major crashes so far this year, compared with 691 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 4.63 percent.

As of August 30, there have been 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 42.86 percent for fatal crashes and 46.67 percent for fatalities.   

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
