DUI Stats
During the week of August 17, through August 23, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 504 DUI arrests compared with 584 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.70 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 637 major crashes so far this year, compared with 675 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 5.63 percent.
As of August 23, there have been 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalitiescompared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 42.86 percent for fatal crashes and 46.67 percent for fatalities.
In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
