DUI Stats

During the week of August 10, through August 16, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested eight motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 487 DUI arrests compared with 575 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.30 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 619 major crashes so far this year, compared with 655 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 5.50 percent.

As of August 16, there have been 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 42.86 percent for fatal crashes and 46.67 percent for fatalities.   

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
