During the week of May 25, through May 31, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 10 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 330 DUI arrests compared with 394 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.24 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 406 major crashes so far this year, compared with 430 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 5.58 percent.

As of May 24, there have been 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities compared with 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 8.33 percent for fatal crashes.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
