During the week of April 20, 2026, through April 26, 2026, Hawai`i Island police arrested twelve (12) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 273 DUI arrests compared with 302 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 9.60 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 317 major crashes so far this year, compared with 331 major crashes during the same time last year. This is a decrease of 4.23 percent.

To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities compared with 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities (one fatal crash reclassified to a medical condition, two died at a later date, and one had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 50.00 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 54.55 percent for fatalities.

To date, the non-traffic fatality count so far this year is 0 compared to 0 non-traffic fatalities (not on a public roadway) for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
