During the week of Sept. 1, to Sept. 7, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 612 DUI arrests compared with 673 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 35 percent.

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 708 major crashes so far this year, compared with 691 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 2.5 percent.

To date, there have been 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatal crashes and 27.3 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
