During the week of August 18, 2025 to August 24, 2025 Hawai`i Island police arrested ten (10) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 585 DUI arrests compared with 633 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 7.6%.

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 676 major crashes so far this year, compared with 657 major crashes during the same time last year. This is an increase of 2.9 percent.

To date, there were 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities (one fatal crash was reclassified to a medical condition, one fatal crash had multiple deaths, and one died at a later date) compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year (two fatal crashes had multiple deaths, and one died at a later date). This represents a decrease of 30 percent for fatal crashes and 31.8 percent for fatalities.

To date, the non-traffic fatality count so far this year is 0 compared to 0 non-traffic fatalities (not on a public roadway) for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
