During the week of Sept. 21, through Sept. 27, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested nine motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 582 DUI arrests compared with 675 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.78 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 718 major crashes so far this year, compared with 753 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 4.65 percent.

As of Sept. 27, there were 23 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalitiescompared with 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 43.75 percent for fatal crashes and 47.06 percent for fatalities.   

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
