Hilo Man Arrested and Charged Following Domestic Altercation Involving Child

Hawai‘i Island police have arrested a 38-year-old Hilo man for felony abuse of a family member following an incident on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, in Hilo.  

At 9:32 a.m., South Hilo patrol officers responded to the 2400 block of Kilauea Avenue for a report of a male child with suspicious injuries. The investigation was initiated and subsequently continued by detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section.

By the early afternoon, detectives identified Bradley Young as a suspect in the investigation, which was classified as abuse of a family or household member in the presence of a minor. An all-points bulletin (APB) was issued for Young’s arrest. Officers made numerous attempts to locate and contact Young, with negative results.

Following further communication with Young, he turned himself in at the Hilo Police Station at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, where he was arrested for felony and misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 23, after conferring with the Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, police charged Young with the following offenses:

• Felony abuse in the presence of a minor
• Misdemeanor abuse

His total bail was set at $7,000 and he is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Family Court on Thursday, Sept. 24, if he does not post bail.
