Police Identify Woman Found Deceased in Ka‘ū

The Hawai‘i Police Department is reporting the death of 93-year-old May Doi, who was found deceased in the Ka‘ū District.

Doi was last seen on Friday, August 14, 2026, at a residence in the 95-1100 block of Maia Street in the Nāʻālehu town subdivision. Due to the extreme weather conditions associated with Hurricane Lala, Doi was reported missing to police on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 11 a.m.

Officers and emergency personnel immediately initiated a search for Doi. She was located deceased on Monday, August 17, at 12:30 p.m.

The circumstances surrounding Doi’s death remain under investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe her death may be related to the effects of Hurricane Lala and the extreme weather conditions associated with the storm. Foul play is not suspected.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week to determine the exact cause of death.
