DUI Stats

During the week of July 6, 2026, through July 12, 2026, Hawai`i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.  Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.  Five of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 422 DUI arrests compared with 494 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.57 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 532 major crashes so far this year, compared with 559 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 4.83 percent.

As of July 12, there have been 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 18 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 23.08 percent for fatal crashes and 28.57 percent for fatalities.   

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
