On June 3, 2026 at 7am, Officers with the Hawaii Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section recently partnered with the 808 Homeless Task Force, County Park and Recreation Division, Kona Brewery Block, One Slap Security, and other Community Partners to hold a Kailua Park Playground clean-up at the Old Kona airport.  This clean-up initiative stems from the HONOUR (Homeless Outreach Nurturing Our Community) project that included approximately 20 unsheltered volunteers who assisted in collaborating with community partners to clean-up the popular “Kailua Park playground”.

This effort brought officers and community members together with a shared goal of preserving and enhancing one of our islands valued public spaces. The cleanup provided an opportunity to improve the park’s appearance, promote environmental stewardship, and strengthen positive relationships between law enforcement and the community we serve.

“Community policing is about building trust, fostering partnerships, and working side by side with residents to address community concerns. Through events like this, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to creating a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming public space for our keiki”, said Kona Community Police Officer Tyler Meno.

Mahalo to all community partners, volunteers and unsheltered individuals who dedicated their time and effort to making a positive impact at the Kailua Park playground. Together, we can continue to keep our communities strong, connected, and thriving.

If anyone would like to volunteer for upcoming or future HONOUR projects, please contact Officer Tyler Meno via email at tyler.meno@hawaiipolice.gov
