Hawai‘i Island police detectives have arrested and charged 30-year-old Keanu Kaikala Krause, of Mountain View, with numerous offenses following a domestic dispute that occurred on the morning of Saturday, May 2, 2026, at a residence in Mountain View.

On Monday, May 4, after conferring with Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Krause was charged with:

  • First-degree reckless endangering (4 counts)
  • First-degree terroristic threatening (4 counts)
  • First-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle
  • First-degree criminal property damage
  • Ownership or possession prohibited firearms
  • Loaded firearm on highway
  • Habitual property crimes
  • Abuse of family household member

Krause was also arrested and charged for an unrelated bench warrant. His total bail was set at $369,000. Krause is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Tuesday afternoon, May 5, in Hilo District Court.

The charges against Krause stem from a domestic dispute between Krause and his 30-year-old girlfriend that occurred at a residence on Kokokahi Road where Krause became physical towards the woman. The victim’s mother, who was also present, was able to transport the victim out of the area in her vehicle along with another woman and an infant child. Upon leaving the residence, Krause pursued them in a green Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and was able to force them to stop on a nearby road.

Krause exited his vehicle while armed with a handgun and struck the victim’s car, shattering the door window and injuring the victim’s arm. He then threatened to shoot the vehicle if the victim did not get out. The victim’s mother managed to drive away, but Krause continued to pursue them and fired a single shot at the front passenger-side wheel. A 911 call was made during the pursuit. Krause fled the scene in the green pickup truck before officers arrived. Despite the incident, the victim and all occupants, including an infant, were not injured.

While investigating the scene, officers received information regarding Krause’s location at a residence on North Oshiro Road. Officers responded to the residence, located Krause, and placed him under arrest. The suspect vehicle was not at the residence. Krause was taken to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center for injuries to his arm where he was admitted for treatment while still in police custody. He was released from hospital the following day and transported to the East Hawai‘i Detention Facility where he remains in police custody while the investigation is continued by detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section.
