DUI Stats

During the week of April 13, through April 19, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 261 DUI arrests compared with 293 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.92 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 296 major crashes so far this year, compared with 314 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 5.73 percent.
As of April 19, 2026, there have been 4 fatal crashes, resulting in 4 fatalities compared with 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 60 percent for fatal crashes and a decrease of 63.64 percent for fatalities.
In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
