Police Thank Kona Community For Successful HI-PAL Kona Bicycle Day Event

The Kona Community Policing Section thanks all participants and attendees of the first HI-PAL Kona Bicycle Day held Jan. 24, 2026, on Aliʻi Drive in Kona. Approximately 100 community members, including 70 keiki, attended the event, which promoted bicycle safety and strengthened relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The event, organized by Kona Community Policing in collaboration with PATH and Bikeworks Hawaiʻi, was held on Aliʻi Drive between Hualālai Road and Lakana Lane. It encouraged safe riding habits, provided education on bicycle safety and roadway rules, and offered positive engagement opportunities with police officers.

HI-PAL is a Hawaiʻi Police Department program in which officers interact with youth through sports and other activities while serving as mentors. The program promotes teamwork, citizenship and responsibility while strengthening trust between youth and law enforcement.

During the event, officers and volunteers conducted bicycle safety checks, provided instruction on proper riding techniques and traffic laws, and set up a bicycle obstacle course. Hawaiʻi Police Department bike patrol officers were also available to meet with families and answer questions.

Police officials said they look forward to continuing similar community-based events that promote safety, wellness and positive partnerships throughout West Hawaiʻi.
