(Update) Police Identify Man Killed in Honoka‘a ATV Crash

Hawai‘i Island police have identified the man who died in the single-vehicle collision involving an all-terrain vehicle late Saturday night in Honoka‘a as 41-year-old Kasey Hui-Ahsam of Honoka’a.

The crash occurred at 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, on Mud Lane, about a half mile west of Honoka‘a–Waipi‘o Road.

According to investigators, Hui-Ahsam was operating a Honda four-wheel all-terrain vehicle while towing a trailer and traveling north when he lost control. Hui-Ahsam, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was ejected as the ATV overturned and pinned him beneath the vehicle.  He was found unresponsive at the scene.

Fire and medical personnel determined Hui-Ahsam was beyond life-saving measures. He was pronounced deceased at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and is continuing this investigation. At this time, speed, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision.

This is the fourth traffic fatality on Hawai‘i Island in 2026, compared to five this time last year.
