Hawai‘i Police Department’s South Kohala Community Policing Section will host the “South Kohala Sugar Showdown” Gingerbread House Building Contest on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Parker Ranch Center food court in Waimea.

The free, family-friendly event, presented in partnership with Parker Ranch Center and Starbucks, is designed to bring families together while strengthening community connections during the holiday season. All gingerbread house–building supplies will be provided, and participating keiki will have the opportunity to express their creativity in a safe and supportive environment.

Participation is limited to the first 40 children, each accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Registration is required and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested families may register in person at the Waimea Police Station. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
