During the week of November 17, 2025 to November 23, 2025 Hawai`i Island police arrested sixteen (16) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 829 DUI arrests compared with 868 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 4.49 percent.

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 904 major crashes so far this year, compared with 890 major crashes during the same time last year. This is an increase of 1.57 percent.

To date, there were 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities (one fatal crash was reclassified to a medical condition, two fatal crashes had multiple deaths, and four died at a later date) compared with 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 28 fatalities for the same time last year (three fatal crashes had multiple deaths, one fatal crash was reclassified to a medical condition, and two died at a later date). This represents a decrease of 28 percent for fatal crashes and 28.57 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
