Officer Landon Takenishi Honored as HISSPA Officer of the Quarter

The Hawai‘i Police Department congratulates South Kohala Patrol Officer Landon Takenishi, who was recognized as Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2025 by the Hawai‘i Island Safety and Security Professionals Association (HISSPA). The award was presented during a ceremony on Aug. 15, 2025, on the Kohala Coast.
Officer Takenishi was honored for his persistence, diligence, and unwavering dedication to preserving public safety. During the quarter, he made five arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant (OVUII), demonstrating his vigilance in keeping Hawai‘i Island roadways safe. A certified Drug Recognition Expert, Takenishi brings added expertise in identifying impairment beyond alcohol, helping ensure drivers under the influence of drugs are also held accountable. His efforts were also recognized earlier this year at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Law Enforcement Recognition Awards ceremony held on O‘ahu.
In addition to traffic enforcement, Officer Takenishi’s investigative skills have led to multiple arrests and a high number of criminal and traffic case investigations. His outstanding work ethic and commitment reflect the department’s core values of integrity, professionalism, compassion, teamwork, and community satisfaction. “Officer Takenishi consistently demonstrates a proactive and professional approach to policing, in alignment with our Department’s vision of fostering a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike,” said Sergeant Bradden Kimura, who nominated Takenishi for the recognition. “His performance this quarter highlights his dedication not only to duty, but also to community service and public trust.”
