DUI Stats

During the week of August 11 to August 17, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 575 DUI arrests compared with 610 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.74 percent.
Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 658 major crashes so far this year, compared with 627 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 4.9 percent.
To date, there have been 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 35 percent for fatal crashes and 36.4 percent for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
