Nathan Cakin

A wanted fugitive who Hawai‘i Island police arrested following an hours-long standoff in Ocean View on Monday, June 23, 2025, has been charged for a firearm offense and an outstanding warrant in connection with the investigation.

After conferring with the Hawai‘i County Prosecutor’s Office, police charged 45-year-old Nathan Cakin of Ocean View (note age corrected to 45 years old) with the following offenses:

  • Ownership or possession prohibited ($50,000 bail)
  • An existing $50,000 outstanding warrant for first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug

His total bail was set at $100,000 and his initial court appearance was slated for Tuesday, June 24, 2025, in Kona District Court.

The charges stem from an incident that started 9:45 a.m. Monday morning when Hawaiʻi Island police, working in coordination with federal and state law enforcement partners, conducted checks at a residence on Aloha Boulevard in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision for Cakin, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. He was also known to be in possession of a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers contacted Cakin at the residence. He refused officers’ verbal commands to exit the home and barricaded himself inside, making threats to harm himself, adding that officers would have to shoot him. Cakin eventually surrendered around 3:45 p.m. and was arrested without further incident.

Detectives with the Area II Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant at the residence and recovered a rifle and methamphetamine-related paraphernalia.
