DESCRIPTION:The Hawai‘i Police Department\, in conjunction with the Mynah Byrdz Baseball Club\, will host the fourth annual HI-PAL Tee Ball/Coach Pitch Baseball Tournament on Saturday\, Jan. 24\, and Sunday\, Jan. 25\, 2026\, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hualani Baseball Park\, 150 Baker Avenue\, in the Keaukaha area of Hilo. \nTwenty-one teams from across Hawai‘i Island\, comprised of keiki ages 4 to 8\, will participate in the tournament. The event is free and open to the public. \nHI-PAL is a program of the Hawai‘i Police Department in which officers interact with youth through sports and other activities while serving as mentors. The program encourages teamwork\, citizenship\, and responsibility while strengthening trust between youth and law enforcement. \nMembers of HPD’s Hilo Community Police Section will be on site on both days providing free Keiki ID services. \nThe Hawai‘i Police Department thanks the Keaukaha community for its support in hosting this event. DESCRIPTION:Hawai‘i Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section\, in partnership with the Hawai‘i Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL) and Hawai‘i County Parks and Recreation\, is now accepting registrations for a youth 3-on-3 basketball tournament open to keiki ages 5 to 14. \nThe tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday\, Jan. 24–25\, 2026\, beginning at 8 a.m. each day at the Kekuaokalani Gym outdoor courts\, located at 75-5500 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona. \nAge divisions include 5–6\, 7–8\, 9–10\, 11–12\, and 13–14. Teams are limited to a maximum of five players per team. \nParticipants must present a copy of their birth certificate at check-in. In addition to Community Policing Officers\, each monthly meeting features personnel from different areas of the police department to explain their particular areas of expertise. Past attendees include members of the Juvenile Aid Section and the Criminal Investigation Section. \nThe goal is to strengthen trust\, promote safety\, and build positive relationships through direct\, face-to-face interaction. \n“Our commitment to keeping our kupuna safe is essential\, as they are a treasured part of our community\,” said Kona Community Policing Section Sergeant Wyattlane Nahale. \nLaunched in November 2025\, these meetings have been very well received by the community with dozens of seniors attending since the program’s inception.
